The Music in the Middles Ages

- In the Middle Ages, a monk called Guido d´Arezzo gave the names of the musical notes. He took the first syllable of the hymn of Saint John the Baptist: “Ut queant laxis”

 

 

- The staves (pentagramas) had 4 lines, the notes were Neumas and the music was called: Gregorian chant (canto gregoriano)
